CORRELATION AMONG STUDENTS' SPEAKING LEARNING PROCESS PRESSURE, SOCIAL SUPPORT, AND THEIR ACADEMIC STRESS AT THE FOURTH SEMESTER OF THE ENGLISH DEPARTMENT OF STATE ISLAMIC INSTITUTE OF KERINCI ACADEMIC YEAR 2024/2025

Academic stress is a common phenomenon among university students, especially those who study foreign languages where speaking demands create additional psychological pressure. This study aims to investigate the correlation between speaking learning process pressure, social support, and academic stress among fourth-semester students of the English Department at the Institut Agama Islam Negeri Kerinci in the academic year 2024/2025. This study uses a descriptive quantitative approach with a correlational research design. The study uses total sampling, so all 20 students from two classes become the research sample. The data are collected using three adapted questionnaires. The statistical analysis includes validity, reliability, normality, heteroscedasticity, multicollinearity tests, and Pearson product-moment correlation analysis using SPSS 24.0. The validity test shows that all items are valid, with r-count values higher than the r-table (0.444). The Cronbach’s Alpha values for each variable are 0.831, 0.873, and 0.897. The findings show a strong positive correlation between speaking learning process pressure and academic stress (r = 0.687, p = 0.001), which explains 47.2% of the variance. Social support shows a strong negative correlation with academic stress (r = -0.624, p = 0.003), explaining 38.9% of the variance. The multiple correlation analysis shows a significant relationship (R = 0.779, p < 0.001) with the regression equation Y = 47.328 + 0.542X₁ − 0.394X₂, which explains 60.7% of the variance in academic stress.
