This research to aims at the challenges that students meet when it comes to English speaking fluency, and also what kinds of ways they use so they can deal with those issues, kind of step by step. The study used a qualitative research approach with sixth-semester students from the English Education Department at the State Islamic Institute of Kerinci, and based on interviews. For collecting the data, the researchers used semi-structured interviews , then the results were processed with thematic analysis, so the themes came out later.For the first research question, the results explained that the students actually faced several challenges when they tried to build better English speaking fluency. Those challenges can be grouped into four factors, linguistic factors like limited vocabulary and grammar difficulties. Then there were personal factors, for example speaking anxiety and also a lack of practice. After that, socio-cultural factors showed up too, especially the environment around them. Lastly, academic factors mattered as well, such as curriculum and infrastructure, which sometimes feels really limited.Then for the second research question, the findings indicated that students tried many strategies to get past those problems. The strategies included vocabulary strategies, grammar strategies, anxiety management, and independent practice. They also mentioned social support, interactive classroom participation, and the use of learning facilities along with technology, like using tools that help them practice.In conclusion, students’ English speaking fluency is shaped by many connected elements, not just one thing. To handle the challenges, students keep applying different strategies and they also take advantage of the support that is available, so their speaking fluency can improve over time.
